My name is Sherry Fernandez. About the time I turned thirty, and had four of my eventual six kids, I finally realized that I was not going to grow up and look like Barbie after all! If I wanted to have a large family and a hot body I was going have to do something and do it soon. That is when I began my own fitness journey. I found the answers to being lean and fit and I want to share it, so now I own and operate FitMania Boot Camp Specialists. It is metabolic resistance training meaning that we increase muscle and improve cardio at the same time. Very effective! Very efficient!

What inspires you? Seeing people become physically strong. It is so empowering and can be a springboard for so many other accomplishments. I love to see people lose weight but I love seeing them become strong even more.

Do you have a favorite quote? We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The pain of discipline weighs ounces the pain of regret weighs pounds.

What are the most pressing issues facing women today? Having to provide, or help provide, for a family and do all the traditional things like raise kids and keep a house all at the same time. Many of them alone. As I do consultations I am amazed and depressed at how heavy the load is that many women carry.

What are the biggest keys to your success? I don’t teach fitness to people I teach people fitness. The difference is that the focus is on the person, not my agenda or program. I have to focus on the person and trust that the financial success will follow. It is the only way I know how to roll!

What are the biggest keys to the advancement or success of women?
The same as for men. I have usually found that being a woman was an advantage in all areas of life, not a handicap.

Where did the inspiration for your business come from? I was about as fit as I thought I could get and the next logical step was to teach what I knew to other people. I had been coaching people on health, fitness and weight loss for years and it was time to make it official. The name FitMania came from some t-shirts my daughter had made, and we all wore, that said Fit Maniac.

Where is your product sold (if applicable)? FitMania Boot Camp Specialists is located at 2404 S. Orchard St. in Boise

What advice do you have for a woman who is considering starting a business? Go after your dreams but always do the right thing. Help other people achieve their dreams along the way.

What are the biggest hurdles you have faced in starting or growing your business? How did you overcome these? Well I am still facing them! Keeping up with technology is one. We live in an online world and it isn’t my interest. The biggest one is getting people in the door and keeping them motivated.
