I have a Ph.D. in Neuropsychology and until just a few months ago, spent the past 14 years as a co-investigator on an international pediatric brain tumor research team.

What inspires you?  My boys! – 18 and 13 years old – one is off to university this Fall while my youngest is heading into 8th grade. It is a busy time but I would not have it any other way.

What are the biggest keys to your success?  Self-reliance and trusting my ability to make good business decisions.

Where did the inspiration for your business come from?  Zipzicle ice-pop molds were created in response to my son’s adverse response to the strong dyes common in commercially sold freezer pops. We began to make our own freezer pops at home. It was not much fun to rely on the hard plastic molds. The traditional ice-pops on a stick do not have much portability and often result in a sticky mess. We thought there must be a better way…and there was!

What advice do you have for a woman who is considering starting a business?  You will face many obstacles, probably each and every day! View them as opportunities to make improvements and forge ahead!

What are the biggest hurdles you’ve faced in starting or growing your business? How did you overcome these?  Manufacturing issues and lead times. Do not give up on finding a manufacturer that will work with you, and communicate well. By working together you can both build a business, rather than just simply making a product order.
