“A career in product development exposed me to overseas factories, so I chose a new path.”

Tell us about yourself
I majored in Industrial Design at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A career in product development exposed me to overseas factories, so I chose a new path. A winter engagement to my college sweetheart led to planning an American made wedding.

Research concluded that there were enough USA made products available to plan the event. Many stores carried a limited supply of USA made goods, so I opened ten total bridal registries. Similar obstacles arose when shopping for USA made fashion and decorations.

To make the process less overwhelming I created My Registry Project as a source for brides planning the USA made wedding.

Proudly USA made, both locally coded and designed, My Registry Project would not be possible without the support of designers and small businesses producing USA made and embellished goods. I am always on the lookout for more USA made products and invite designers to join My Registry Project’s USA Made Designer Database. For more on the American made wedding, please visit https://myregistryproject.com.

What inspires you?
Made in America. Small business, fashion designers, and artists who produce locally made and embellished goods.

What are the most pressing issues facing women today?
In today’s tough economy I’d have to say starting something new whether that’s a new business or idea. Sometimes it’s pushing yourself to go to that next level.

What are the biggest keys to your success?
Communication and determination. Thanks to social media I’ve been able to connect with some very talented designers.

What are the biggest keys to the advancement or success of women?
Hard work, setting goals, challenging yourself, and keeping in touch with professionals.

Where did the inspiration for your business come from?
My Registry Project was inspired by my own made in America wedding. I wanted to create a source for brides searching for USA made bridal.

What advice do you have for a woman who is considering starting a business?
To believe in yourself and not to give up.

What are the biggest hurdles you’ve faced in starting or growing your business? How did you overcome these? It was very important that my website (https://myregistryproject.com) was made in America. The most challenging part of this process was learning the computer languages needed to build my site. After taking several classes I was able to achieve my goal.
